Creating Healthier Environments (2009)

On April 24, 2009, Dr. Karen Lee presented "Creating Healthier Environments to Address Physical Inactivity, Obesity and Chronic Diseases" at the University of Alberta.

Dr. Lee is the Deputy Director at the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Dr. Lee's biography

Dr. Karen Lee, MD, MHSc, FRCPC

Dr. Lee received her medical degree from the University of Alberta, followed by a Masters of Health Science in Community Health and Epidemiology from the University of Toronto. Following her training, Dr. Lee worked in public health departments in Ontario and in Edmonton; was Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Alberta; and served as Chair of the Research and Evaluation Committee of the Alberta Healthy Living Network, a World Health Organization Country-wide Integrated Non-communicable Disease Initiative (CINDI) demonstration site.

Before moving to NYC, she was with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where she worked in the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity. The CDC epidemiology team led by Dr. Lee for the field investigation of obesity-related environmental factors in West Virginia was awarded the US Public Health Service Unit Commendation Award for outstanding contributions.
