Injury Prevention

  • Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety: This Canadian government agency works to eliminate all Canadian work-related illnesses and injuries. Includes information, resources, events, tools and links.

  • PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire): A short questionnaire to identify people who should consult a doctor about the type of activity most suitable for them.

  • PAR-MEDX for Pregnancy: A checklist and prescription used by health-care providers to evaluate pregnant women who want to enter a prenatal fitness program and for ongoing medical observation of pregnant women who are exercising.

  • Workers’ Compensation Board (Alberta): This not-for-profit organization protects employees and employers during work-related injuries and illness. This website provides information and resources for employees, employers and health-care providers.

Ergonomics

  • Alberta Centre for Active Living, Stretching @ Your Desk: Take a break during the workday with these stretching exercises. A certified fitness instructor leads you through a variety of stretching exercises you can do right at your desk.

  • Alberta Centre for Active Living, Yoga @ Your Desk: Do some relaxing yoga poses during your busy workday. A certified yoga instructor takes you through a variety of yoga poses. Also available in French.

  • Office Ergonomics: A booklet from the Workers’ Compensation Board on the risk factors of repetitive strain injuries. The booklet also includes information on ergonomics, office stretches and a workplace checklist.

  • Wrist and Forearm Stretches: Information on the importance of stretching, with examples of stretches that can be done at your workstation from the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety.
